PM1-L Projector Ceiling Mount Review

PM1-L Projector Ceiling Mount

The PM1-L is an inexpensive mount for projectors in the portable size all the way up to some large venue and auditorium projectors.

When you first have a look at this mount when you remove it from the box, you will discover it's constructed from solid steel and they didn't cheap out on materials or leave out any accessories when designing and constructing this mount. The mount is powder coated in a rugged black coating and is assembled with sturdy nuts and bolts and large sized Allen keys.

As posted in other reviews I have installed my fair share of projectors in my day and have used a fairly wide range of mounts including, Sanus, Omni-mount, Peerless and Vantage point. All of these mounts hold well and absolutely can get the job done. I actually found this mount to be easier to install then any of the previously mentioned manufactures.  It has a large ceiling plate that measures 5.71 by 8.66 inches is able to give good weight distribution onto the drywall or joist to prevent it from cracking the material it has been fastened to.

This mount in almost all locations uses "real" fasteners instead of small allen key screws that can strip out easily. It comes with 10mm / 13/32nd and 13mm / ½"  nuts and bolts with heads that accept a 8mm Allen head driver bit. You will have a tough time rounding  that size of hardware over with no matter how much torque you throw at them. The mount only uses a smaller size of Allen head screw to tighten the arms that hold the projector to the mount. And even there, they use double the hardware and nuts to securely fasten the arms to the mount.

The mount comes with ten different sets and sizes of screws, five different sets of washers and spacers and a total of eight projector mounting arms in four different sizes. The related sizes of arms are as follows; 2 x 2", 2 x 3", 2 x 4", 2 x 6". This will allow you to mount almost any projector you could get your hands on in a residential or medium sized installation. Recently I installed this mount onto the Epson 1080UB home cinema projector. I was worried when I looked at the bottom of the projector. Would this mount be able to adapt to the unusually large 11 6/8th by 6 ¼ mounting pattern. But all I had to do was install two of the longer arms and presto it was able to securely hold our Epson 1080UB to the ceiling while still allowing access to the lamp and filters with out even moving the projector. Once installed, the projector mount has the ability to adjust the drop length from 15 ¼" to 35 1"4 from the ceiling.

The piece that holds the mount together just above the projector might remind you of a yoke in a drive shaft. It will allow you to change the roll and pitch of the projector while further up it will allow you to change the yaw. Once you tighten the bolts that are attached to the yoke you are still able to fine tune the placement of the projector with the use of some force, so fine tuning issues are a breeze. Two people are usually required when mounting a projector for safety. Unless you are mounting a really large projector you should be able to get away with just one person. This mount also has a feature that with removing one single bolt you are able to pull the projector from the ceiling with out touching the fine tuned position adjustments you have already made to the mount to get your image properly positioned.

Overall this is a very versatile, secure and inexpensive mounting solution for projectors in a wide range of sizes in home, business and industrial applications. I can highly recommend the PM1-L and its smaller brother the PM1-S to hopefully mount a projector near you.
